Inhealthcare’s partnership with FibriCheck supports the prevention and management of CVD through effective use of innovative technology
CVD affects approximately seven million people in the UK alone and is a major cause of disability and death, especially among disadvantaged communities. Preventing and managing CVD has the potential to improve population health, reduce health inequalities and ease pressures on overstretched health and care systems by increasing efficiency throughout clinical pathways.
Our solution supports patients in three key areas of CVD care. Firstly, patients with suspected cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation (AF) can use FibriCheck to check up on their heart health by measuring their heart rate and heart rhythm using nothing but their smartphone. All measurements captured by FibriCheck are analysed by a medically certified, AI-based algorithm and can optionally be reviewed by a clinical team. Early detection of cardiac arrhythmias allows patients to receive preventative care sooner, which greatly reduces the chance of developing serious complications and eases pressure on NHS resources.
Secondly, FibriCheck can be used in conjunction with Inhealthcare’s cardiovascular services such as our blood pressure monitoring service, and other services where patients are at an increased risk of developing AF, to regularly monitor their heart rhythm, log their blood pressure, and detect signs of AF at an earlier stage.
Finally, patients on our heart failure virtual ward programme can use FibriCheck as part of their monitoring programme so acute care teams can identify early signs of heart health deterioration.
FibriCheck has demonstrated benefits in the NHS across the UK, including North West London and the greater London area, where they saw a:
- 95% reduction in face-to-face follow-up appointments post-surgery
- 93% reduction in visits of low risk, symptomatic patients
- 48% decrease in the use of ECGs
- 73.5 hours of outpatient clinic hours saved
