We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new respiratory pathway service, designed to support NHS trusts in managing patients with lung conditions at home through virtual ward settings.

Inhealthcare is listed by NICE in its early value assessment guidance on virtual ward platform technologies for acute respiratory infections.

The new service, based on Inhealthcare’s proven technology, combines clinically validated questionnaires with advanced vital signs monitoring to provide comprehensive care for these patients.

This ready-to-deploy model allows healthcare providers to monitor patients remotely, helping to reduce hospital admissions and alleviate bed pressures throughout the year.

As part of the Resmed family, Inhealthcare leverages expertise in connected solutions for respiratory conditions, including sleep apnoea, to deliver effective care pathways.

The pathway features a specialised respiratory questionnaire with user-friendly language and Bluetooth integration for instant vital signs collection via mobile app. Healthcare providers can configure which vital signs to monitor and set thresholds at both organisational and patient levels.

The service supports both patient-led and clinician-led monitoring with flexible scheduling options to meet clinical requirements.

With respiratory disease affecting one in five people and representing the third biggest cause of death in England, this service addresses a significant healthcare challenge. Hospital admissions for lung diseases have risen at three times the rate of all admissions generally over the past seven years, creating substantial pressure on NHS resources.

The economic burden of respiratory conditions on the NHS is estimated at £11 billion annually, with COPD and asthma accounting for nearly £5 billion of this cost*. By enabling remote monitoring and virtual wards for respiratory patients, Inhealthcare’s service aims to reduce hospital admissions and support more efficient care delivery.

“This new approach represents a significant advancement in how we deliver respiratory care services,” says Jamie Innes, product director at Inhealthcare. “It provides the high quality and flexibility that our NHS partners need.”

The service is currently being implemented with a multi-hospital NHS trust and will be available to both existing and new Inhealthcare customers.
